Remember all our discussions about parents who have babies in the hopes their stem cells will cure a terrible disease in their older child? Well, once such family is the Trevinos, and their son, Andy, was diagnosed with NEMO deficiency – a rare genetic immune disorder. The Trevinos are from Mexico, but Andy is being treated at Children’s Hospital Boston. His little sister Sofia is providing stem cells that can cure him, but he still has a long road ahead.
Andres Trevino, Andy’s papa, has started a web site that is centered around fundraising for Andy’s treatment, and for the Andy Fund to search for a cure. We are all sobbing over the Andy Blog, with happy photos of the nurse of the day. His dad calls it his “extreme parenthood” blog.
